Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren,
mein Name ist Aya Kouamé, ich bin Französin und lebe seit etwa 10 Jahren in Berlin. Im Rahmen eines Dokumentarfilmprojektes bin ich auf der Suche nach den sogenannten Mauerspechten, die aus aller Welt kamen, um den Fall der Mauer zu zelebrieren
und später Stücke der Berliner Mauer mit sich nach Hause zu nehmen. Die Mauer innerhalb der Stadt wurde bis November 1990 abgebaut. Was ist aus diesen 45 000 Betonblöcken, diesen 120.000 Tonnen Beton geworden? Fast 20 Jahre nach dem Mauerfall würde ich gern wissen,
wo die Mauerstücke verteilt sind. Was war die Motivation der (nicht deutschen) Mauerspechte damals? War es ein symbolischer und somit politischer Akt, oder hatten die Menschen eine persönliche Motivation?
Was haben sie mit den Mauerstücken gemacht? Sie verkauft? Verschenkt? Oder einfach nur behalten? Und wo sind sie jetzt? Thronen sie auf Kaminen? Oder liegen sie vergessen im Keller? Ich würde sehr gern Kontakt aufnehmen mit Menschen, für die der Fall der Mauer eine sehr wichtige Erfahrung gewesen ist,
über die sie gern erzählen möchten. In der Hoffnung, dass solche Kontakte zustande kommen, habe ich mir die kommenden Monate für etwaige Reisen frei gehalten, um diese Menschen zu treffen. Die Idee diesen Moment der deutschen Geschichte aus dem Blickwinkel von Ausländern zu dokumentieren,
fasziniert mich ebenso wie eine über die ganze Welt verstreute Mauer. Ich wäre Ihnen extrem dankbar, wenn Sie mir in irgendeiner Weise bei meinem Vorhaben behilflich sein könnten.

My name is Aya. I am French and I have been living in Berlin for about 10 years now. Within the scope of a documentary project I am looking for the so-called "wall-peckers", foreign people from over the world,
who booked a flight to Berlin November 1989, joined the celebration at the Wall and later smashed down the Berlin Wall and returned to their country with some pieces of it. The Wall in Berlin city has been dismantled until November 1990.
Where are these 45.000 concrete blocks, these 120.000 tonnes concrete now? Almost 20 years after the fall of the Wall I would like to know where these pieces are. What was the motivation of the foreign "wall-peckers"?
Was it a symbolical or political act or did the "wall-peckers" have a personal motivation? What did they do with the pieces they have got? Did they sell them? Or did they give them away as a present? Or did they just keep them?
Where are these pieces now? Do they look down upon chimneys? Or do they wither in some boxes in the cellar? I would like to meet some of the "wall-peckers" and let them tell me about their experiences.
Hoping to find some of these persons, I plan to travel the next few months and meet them. I am fascinated by the idea of documenting a moment of German history from the angle of foreign people as well as I am fascinated by the fact
that an entire wall is scattered all over the world.

Mi nombre es Aya Kouamé, soy francesa y vivo en Berlín desde hace 10 años. Con el objetivo de realizar un proyecto documental, ando buscando a los llamados “Mauerspecten” (carpinteros del muro en español) que vinieron de todo el mundo para celebrar la caída del Muro Berlín y después llevarse a casa algunos fragmentos.
El muro en el interior de la ciudad se acabó de derribar en noviembre de 1990. ¿Qué ha sido de aquellos 45.000 bloques de hormigón, de aquellas 120.000 toneladas de hormigón? Después de casi 20 años desde la caída del muro, me gustaría saber por dónde se encuentran desperdigados los trozos el muro.
¿Cuál fue la motivación de los “carpinteros del muro” no alemanes en aquel entonces? ¿Se trató de un acto simbólico, político o de alguna motivación personal? ¿Qué ha sido de aquellos trozos del muro? ¿Se vendieron? ¿Se regalaron? ¿O simplemente se han conservado? ¿Dónde están ahora? ¿Decoran la estantería de chimeneas? ¿O yacen en algún rincón en el sótano?
Me encantaría poder establecer contacto con personas para las cuales la caída del muro fue una vivencia muy importante, sobre la que quisieran hablar. Con la esperanza de poder escuchar el testimonio de esas personas, estoy preparada para emprender los viajes que sean necesarios para ir a su encuentro.
Me fascina la idea de documentar un gran momento de la historia de Alemania desde el punto de vista de los extranjeros, así como también me conmueve el hecho de que un muro entero, que durante años separó a un pueblo, se encuentre ahora esparcido por el mundo. Les estaría muy agradecida si de algún modo pudieran ayudarme en mis investigaciones.
